Welcome to Bordertown →
“ here’s what you need to know about Bordertown: It exists on the border between Faerie (or the Realm, as its inhabitants call it) and the World (where the rest of us live our mundane daily lives). It is full of runaways, elves, artists, enchantments, despair, hope, and community. Life is more dangerous there, and possibly more rewarding. It’s definitely expensive, and the costs are...

Dark Clouds Are Gathering: Paintings by Olaf Hajek
37thstate: In love with these paintings by artist Olaf Hajek. Working between the borders of reality and imagination Olaf Hajek reshapes the rough with the smooth, creating dreamlike tableaux that are skillfully rendered in his signature use of color and technique.  Completely in love with his paintings!

Black Future Month...
“I’ve been thinking about The Blues more than usual, lately. Been taken by the dry notes and stirred by the airy, breathy moments in between them. Been thinking about Houston and Cornelius and a roll call of unidentified bodies who struggled with their indigo, who let their cobalt get the best of them. For the future, I dream Black folks who look like themselves, who spell deeply on the...

HISTORICITY (was already taken): soapbox time →
historicity-was-already-taken: If you can, please sign this petition. Lawmakers in Arizona have banned public schools from teaching any courses with racial or ethnic themes. This is incredibly dangerous and (obviously) racist, and though I don’t know how much of an effect this petition will have I still urge you to sign it. On a related note, the Tennessee Tea Party is fighting to remove...

Etsuko Ichikawa is a Seattle-based artist who uses a really cool process called glass pyrograph in her work Pyrography means “writing with fire” and is the traditional art of using a heated tip or wire to burn or scorch designs onto natural materials such as wood or leather. The glowing material is molten glass. She gathers really hot glass onto a pipe and makes drawings on paper....

FolK tOld Me: Super Dope Afrofuturist Band
Check out this band Folk Told Me.  My favorite song is “Gallows Pole” one of Jazzmen Lee-Johnson’s earlier projects.  Folk Told Me is a band of melodic sankofa martians, spinning stories like hip hop griots doomed to this place called earth, traveling in sound sparring with myopic modes of being…freeing…The members are Jazzmen Lee-Johnson, Ngakana Monyelo, Tshepiso Maleke,...
